Now that the mighty have fallen

who is going to watch over us?

Preach over us?

Take over us?

Took our land

These statues represent

those who stole from us!

They owe us

reparations

for all they have gained through us.

They remind us

of an apartheid legacy

My own story remains a mystery

A forgery

Confusery

For I have been labelled a born free

My freedom is a domfreeze

Andilazi ibali lami

Kodwa nifuna ndilazi elabo...

 

NOW THAT MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN

The African child is victorious

Now the apartheid government is getting nervous

They fear us

Bayasisaba

They need the baas’ permission

so there is a breakdown in communication.

The beautiful ones are born

and we need an explanation

It’s an abomination

to idolise those

who were part of your dehumanisation.

Whose history are we memorising?

Commemorating...

Which legacies

are our future generations celebrating?

Or does it not matter?

And why are we so self erasing?
